As a mark of respect to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the Methodist Schools' Foundation (MSF) will be making its 2015 MethodistWalk, a Memorial Walk instead, to join the rest of the country in its period of National Mourning.
The Walk, which occurs every two years, will begin with a memorial service for the late Mr Lee, without whose firm belief in inter-racial, multi-religious harmony, Methodists island-wide would not be able to declare their beliefs openly.
"We are very saddened and join our nation in the outpouring of grief for our founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Instead of cancelling MethodistWalk 2015 with Ms Sim Ann as our guest of honour, together with the 6000 participants comprising mainly students of Methodist schools and church members, we will dedicate this Walk to Mr Lee. As he served us his whole lifetime, we want to inspire our children to continue Mr Lee's legacy by Stepping Out In Service too, our theme for the Walk." said Ms Joni Ong, Chairman, chairperson of The Methodist Schools' Foundation, organiser of MethodistWalk 2015.
Activities planned for the end of the walk, which would have been held on the field after completion, have now been cancelled. After the walk, participants will collect their refreshments and quietly leave the venue.
